Ascendant: The History of the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. showcases the history of the founding chapter of the first and oldest intercollegiate fraternity for Black men in the world. The book details the preceeding groups and events that led to the chapter's founding at Cornell University in 1906, the chapter's history itself, and related interesting information. The Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, originally seated at Syracuse University, is discussed as well because of its proximity to and interrelations with the Alpha Chapter.
